Correcting a Rejected Filing
If a clerk rejects your filing, don't worry — you can correct the issues and resubmit without starting over from scratch.
How You'll Know
When a filing is rejected, you will:
- Receive an email notification with the rejection details
- See the filing marked as Rejected (in red) on your dashboard
- See a Resubmit button next to that filing
Understanding the Rejection
Open the filing detail page to see exactly why it was rejected. The clerk will have provided:
Rejection Reason — a category such as:
- Incomplete Filing
- Incorrect Form
- Missing Signature
- Incorrect Fee
- Wrong Court
- Duplicate Filing
- Defective Service
- Other
Clerk Notes — specific instructions on what needs to be corrected
Resubmitting
From your dashboard, click Resubmit on the rejected filing, or from the filing detail page, click Edit & Resubmit.
The filing wizard reopens with all your original information pre-filled. A banner at the top reminds you of the rejection reason and the clerk's notes.
Make the necessary corrections:
- Wrong court or case type? Fix it in Step 1.
- Missing or incorrect party information? Update in Step 2.
- Wrong document, missing signature, or incorrect form? Replace or add documents in Step 3.
- Fee issue? Review in Step 4.
Review everything in Step 5 and click Submit Filing.
The corrected filing will be submitted as a new review item for the clerk. Your original filing number is preserved for tracking continuity.
Tip: Read the clerk's notes carefully. Addressing every issue the first time avoids additional round-trips and speeds up your case.
